Living in Bottelier Curacao?

Bottelier is a quiet neighborhood with a lot of variety in buildings. Because the district is located on a hill, the majority of the houses have a beautiful view of the lagun Jan Thiel at the back. For the necessary cooling, the island wind is always palpable at this height.

Natural environment

The salt pans of Jan Thiel lie between the Seaquarium Beach and Jan Thiel. A beautiful nature reserve where you can walk, run, ride a horse or mountain bike. And with a bit of luck you will see a group of flamingos on the salt lake in addition to the many cacti. There are many birds and in the rainy season you can admire beautiful flowers.

The history of Bottelier Curacao

Bottelier, like many neighborhoods on Curaçao, used to be a plantation. In the 19th century, Bottelier, with its 60 hectares, was one of the smaller plantations on the island. It was also called plantation “Lange Tuyn”. At this time, Bottelier was the only plantation that used plows to work the land. This went much faster than when everything was done manually. This method in which mechanics were used was still completely unknown on Curaçao. This made Bottelier a very modern plantation for that time. At country house Bottelier, a number of authentic gables can still be seen, but the rest of the country house has undergone many renovations.
